For Eric Rockburn, it's not just a wedding album, it's your true life story

Reviewing Eric Rockburn, of Eric Rockburn Photography

It's rare to find a husband and wife who not only love to be together, but also love to work together. Eric Rockburn's success is hinged not only on his dual diplomas in graphic design and photography, his lifelong exposure to art and photography specifically, but also on the woman he

married and works weddings side-by-side with. Crystal and Eric create contemporary digital images for their clients, work to provide you with more than you'd expect to receive, and present it all in a professional, custom designed album. "When you look through your wedding album, we want you to feel like you are re-living your own true story," says Eric. We sat down with Eric to learn more about his art and how he applies it to London and area weddings...

Eric describes his style as being inspired by the essence of the day and how it unfolds. "I'm drawn into the love inspired by the bride and groom, the day, the wedding décor... We approach each wedding with a fresh perspective."

What makes Eric click

Eric Rockburn grew up surrounded by the art of photography. In fact, his parents had their own photography business, working as a team from their in-home studio. "Creativity and art has always been part of my family," he explains. "My mom and dad have been a professional photography team since I was a child." He admits that he has always been interested in expanding his creativity and expressing himself visually, "My passion for art started a long time ago. Since I could remember I have been drawing and painting. I have tried many mediums from pastels to acrylics to clay..." This explains why Eric, after graduating from a graphic design college program, moved on to earn a second diploma from London's own Fanshawe College - a school known for their excellent photography program.

Eric has now been a photographer for nine years, five of which he's spent shooting weddings. In addition to weddings, he does quite a bit of engagement, maternity, baby and family photo shoots. "I love shooting the emotion and moments between a bride and groom, between parents and their newborn babies, or the emotion on the face of an expectant mother... It's hard for me to get through a day without having my finger activating a shutter. I try to create photo essays on a regular basis..."

Another one of Eric's secrets to success comes from his partner in life and business, his wife Crystal. He's quick to point out her importance in the each step of the way to producing your finished wedding album, "Crystal and I are a husband-wife team who are passionate about our business and about each other. As a newlywed couple we understand the importance of having everything exactly perfect on a couple's wedding day. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of such a special time in our client's lives and take that responsibility very seriously."

What a bride wants

When Eric goes to work on your wedding, it's not just another job for him. "It's not work. It's art. And it's fun." He says he immerses himself in your wedding day as much as he possibly can. "That's how I'm able to capture the excitement, the laughter, the love.... All of those emotions and people that are so important to you are caught on camera."

Catering to what any bride would want, Eric believes that the bride should feel like her photos are straight out of a magazine. "I don't want your photos to look like just the regular wedding photos. They should be incredible. And they should be memorable for everyone who views them. Not just for the bride and groom." To make this happen, Eric and Crystal try to have fun with the bride, groom and wedding party. He says that making people comfortable in front of the camera is what makes a truly great photo. "We try to make sure everyone is at ease. We want the photography portion of the wedding day to be enjoyable - a lot of laughs and everyone is relaxed." He enjoys that ability to be able to get people to relax and have fun with their time together. "We feel like we are part of the family... We're truly honoured to be sharing their day with them."

Eric knows that every wedding is unique. "I know how fast the day flies by and I just want to make sure we capture every possible moment and detail." So when he approaches your wedding, his goal is to do so accurately, intimately, in details, and yet as unobtrusively as possible. "... I love photography; it's my way of finding beauty in every day."

Branding himself

Eric shoots in a mix of contemporary and documentary styles, with lots of candids to capture some of the best moments unplanned of the wedding (with the help of Crystal). His main focus is capturing the fun and unique moments that represent the couple themselves, "With two diplomas under my belt, I fuse them to create my own brand of contemporary, avant-garde style."

Your photo options

Because your album isn't just a product, it's your own true life story, Eric considers the resulting album to be as important as any other detail in his business. "We are driven to exceed expectations in every facet of the bride and groom's experience with us," Eric told us. "These  photographs and albums will become cherished in their family for generations."

Eric believes that one of the keys to great photos is communication between the bride and groom and the photographer, especially when it comes to their album. That's why Eric makes sure that every couple loves not just the pictures but the presentation of their chosen photos as well. "I love documenting my customer's wedding day with a collection of photos that become a masterpiece representation of the bride and groom's most important day," Eric explains. "The bride cherishing the fragrance of rare flowers that make her bouquet, the feeling the groom has as he sees his bride for the first time, the emotions the bride experiences while dancing with her dad - these are the moments we try and capture forever." To truly appreciate Eric's ability to mix his graphic design background with photography, you have to see one of his albums that enhance the already emotionally charged photos.

Inotherwords...

"WOW!!!! I had high expectations of what the pictures would look like but you have really exceeded anything that we were expecting. Everyone who has gone in to look at the pictures has taken the time to tell me how amazed they are with the work that you did. You really captured the feeling and the special moments of the day and Tom and I could not be happier with how they all turned out. Again, really blown away by all of them and I can't thank you enough for being able to give us something so special that we will treasure the rest of our lives." - Emma & Tom

"One thing I can say is that your wedding day goes by unbelievably fast, making it hard to remember every special moment... Eric was able to capture all the special moments and more! Our ceremony room was quite packed, and yet Eric was able to create great, creative shots, without us being aware of his presence... We honestly do not have a photo we don't love! Eric was great on our wedding day, he and Crystal made my husband and I, as well as families and guests, so comfortable. He is very professional, and yet very personable, making us feel very relaxed, resulting in beautiful pictures. My father is a professional photographer as well and was extremely impressed with Eric on the wedding day, and even more impressed with his quality of work... Eric is incredibly reliable, trustworthy and produces excellent work!" - Melanie & Jean

"Thank you so much for the amazing photos of our day!  Our best memories are captured through your lenses!" - Shanyn & Jeff
